We’re looking for an Engineering Manager, Content & Curation specializing on a product-focused team as a manager of people. In this role, you will form a strong partnership with your Engineering Director to champion team needs, and execute on strategic initiatives. You’ll be positioned to partner with Product, to anticipate and guide product decisions and how they relate to immediate and long-term investments.

The ideal candidate for this role will be based remotely in the US and leading a distributed team.

A Day in the Life

  • Collaborating with product, design, and other stakeholders to plan and execute projects and build OKRs against company objectives.
  • Solving problems by combining ideas from a diverse group of individuals and digesting customer feedback to iterate on solutions.
  • Coaching and advising engineers to grow their skills and experience through one-on-ones and other interactions.
  • Running Agile project management processes and ceremonies.
  • Fostering an empathetic and psychologically safe environment across Degreed.
  • Advocating for and keeping awareness of engineering processes and best practices.
  • Conducting interviews and contributing to building and retaining a diverse, well-balanced engineering team.
  • Empowering your people to make informed technical decisions, making final decisions when necessary.
  • Defining success for your engineering team(s) with an eye towards continuous improvement and sustained execution against our roadmap.
  • Participating in production support on-call rotations to ensure Degreed meets its uptime and availability goals.
  • Work closely with your team(s) to build realistic roadmaps through cross-functional collaboration
  • Utilize metrics to track your teams’ productivity, identify and mitigate risks.

Who You Are

There are only a handful of folks who meet all qualifications. We care more about hiring managers that have a track record of caring deeply about people and shipping quality software than checking all of the boxes. So whether you meet all the qualifications or a partial set, we want to hear from you.

  • 5 years or more experience of technical experience.
  • 2 years or more experience in a leadership role.
  • High degree of empathy and proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with:
    • Developing a strategy and roadmap in partnership with your team and other stakeholders.
    • Grouping, breaking down, and editing tasks so that engineers can complete them more easily.
    • Grooming the backlog in collaboration with your Product Manager.
    • Establishing technical plans with your team members for more complex or unknown areas that require further definition and validation.
  • Capable of:
    • Communicating with high-level stakeholders and executing large initiatives in an iterative fashion.
    • Working with engineering, design, and product leadership to ensure alignment and progress towards meeting milestones.
    • Ensuring the team ships products, features, and bug fixes regularly with architecturally consistent, high quality software.
    • Working on a distributed team with asynchronous communication in a remote work environment.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Enterprise SaaS company experience.
  • Experience managing a team of 4 or more individual contributors.
  • Demonstrated experience working with .NET, Angular, SQL Server, Azure, and other core elements of our technology stack and/or productivity tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Degreed is a remote-first company, however our roles are open to in-office or flex work if you live in a city with a physical office location (when it is safe to return to the office). This role has the opportunity to operate 100% virtually from your home office. We primarily collaborate with our US and International colleagues through virtual meetings (Zoom), email, and Slack. In this role, you will be required to operate a laptop computer (PC or Mac available), computer software platforms, and other office productivity machinery as necessary.  Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to remain stationary for extended periods, and must be able to observe and interpret written and/or verbal communication.
