Job Description

The Outreach team, within the larger Creator & Backer Success team, engages directly with, advises, educates, and advocates for creators in the global creative communities we serve. Managing a large portfolio of relationships, they work hands-on with creators to help them use Kickstarter to bring their projects to life.
Over the past decade, tens of thousands of product designers, engineers, hardware startups, and makers have shared their ideas with the world through Kickstarter’s Design & Tech categories. Creators like Peak Design, Nebia, Ecoflow, Snapmaker, and many more have worked with us to release new products, launch new industries, and change the way things are made. To date, over 30,000 Design & Tech projects have found success on Kickstarter, raising more than $2.5 billion.

About The Role

You’ll draw on your network and industry knowledge to find influential hardware and product design startups and creators on the West Coast in the United States and Canada, and inspire them to use Kickstarter, collaborating with teams across the company.

In This Role, You Will

  • Seek out promising Design & Tech creators on the West Coast in the United States and Canada and make the case for using Kickstarter in a competitive funding landscape.
  • Prioritize and manage inbound creator queries, advising creators on launch strategy and/or connecting them to our support teams.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to propose initiatives within this community that drive our new project pipeline from community events to category-specific open calls.
  • Attend in-person and virtual community events as a representative of Kickstarter, including frequent public speaking appearances.
  • Connect with community partners in the Design & Tech ecosystem (accelerators, maker spaces, agencies, etc) to support creators from their communities and generate referral pipelines.
  • Serve as an internal champion for the needs of Design & Tech creators, and shepherd their projects through our internal systems and processes.
  • Contribute to the curation and celebration of exemplary campaigns in Design & Technology and identify promotional opportunities for priority campaigns.
  • Contribute to creating educational content to help creators succeed and learn best practices for using Kickstarter to bring projects to life.

About You

  • You have proven ability to build community and networks in the Design & Tech industry on the West Coast in North America, particularly hardware, maker/inventor, and engineering communities.
  • You are able to travel to meet with key creators in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the West Coast of the United States and Canada.
  • You have a proven ability to make data-based decisions, able to track and report on the impact of your work.
  • You are familiar with Kickstarter and believe in the opportunity we represent for Design & Tech creators.
  • You have the category expertise to evaluate projects for potential in the context of industry trends and innovations, including some technical understanding.
  • You are an excellent communicator, able to speak eloquently and effectively in both small and large groups.
  • Bonus points if: you have run or collaborated on a Kickstarter project in the past; and/or if you have a broad understanding of hardware manufacturing at scale including global supply chains.
